Most people meet Sabian Symbols through their Sun. But the Sun is only one degree in a chart full of them. The three that matter most for a first full reading are the Sun, the Moon, and the Ascendant — and they tell three different stories.
The Sun: how you express
Your Sun's symbol describes your core mode of expression — the version of you that acts, creates, and seeks to be seen. It's the most stable of the three to find, because the Sun moves only about a degree a day, so a birth date alone places it.
The Moon: how you feel
The Moon's symbol speaks to your inner life — your instinctive reactions, what soothes you, what you need to feel safe. The Moon moves fast, roughly twelve to thirteen degrees a day, so its symbol can shift within a single day. To find it accurately you need a birth time.
The Sun is how you shine; the Moon is what you carry quietly underneath it.
The Ascendant: how you arrive
The Ascendant — the degree rising on the eastern horizon at your birth — is the version of you that walks into rooms, the first impression, the doorway others come through to reach you. It's the most time-sensitive of the three: the Ascendant moves a full degree every four minutes, so even a rough birth time can land you on the wrong symbol.
Reading the three together
The real insight comes from the pattern across all three. Sometimes the Sun and Moon symbols echo each other; sometimes they pull in opposite directions, and that tension is the reading. A full reading looks at what the three images have in common and where they diverge — what your chart is built around. If you're still placing them, start with how to find your symbol, then run each through the reading method.
